Hundreds years past,in 1082,during the Song Dynasty, a fortified called Xiangshan was found in that area, which was renamed Zhongshan for the honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1926. Until now, my hometown is 932 years old! About 750 years later, in 1839, the famous official Lin Zexu arrived in Zhongshan and ordered the expulsion of British traders from that area. This big event led to the First Opium War took place in China, Guangdong province in Qing Dynasty, and much of the war took place in and around Zhongshan. About 40 years ago, Zhongshan was elevated in administrative status from a country to a country-level city and again 5 years later it became a prefecture-level city.
